Simu Liu gives an update on Shang-Chi 2

Shang-Chi fans are still waiting for its sequel and due to the long wait, some feel they are being forgotten. However, the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings lead star wants fans to relax because Shang-Chi 2 of course it happens.

The first Shang-Chi the film was released in 2021 as part of the fourth phase of the MCU. It performed well at the box office, grossing over $432 million worldwide. Marvel fans were very impressed not only by Liu’s performance, but also the storyline. For years, they have been looking forward to the continuation of the events of Shang-Chi, but the lack of details regarding the development of the sequel has left many disappointed. However, the Barbie the actor assures fans that Shang-Chi 2 it’s really in the works.

Liu sat down for an interview with The Press Trust of India on his new film, Jackpothit Prime Video. He was asked about his superhero movie sequel and gave a promising update. “Most of it is above my salary level, but it’s still happening,” Liu said. He suggests that they are already working on it and teases that the fans will love it. However, Liu won’t dwell too much on it. He added, “So, I’m really excited to do some kind of work on it and it’s going to be amazing. I really can’t say anything more than that.”

Liu remains optimistic about the film and always gives positive feedback when asked about the sequel. For example, in April, when a fan said he felt like Marvel had abandoned him Shang-Chi fanbase because of the accusation of lack of effort to film a sequel and not involving the Shang-Chi characters from other Marvel movies, gave the same answer. “I poooomiss that’s happening,” Liu commented on a fan post on the Thread. However, his latest news was very different from Awkwafina’s statement. Awkwafina plays Katy, the heroine of the hotel and Shang-Chi’s best friend in the film. The two actors once again starred together in a new comedy film Jackpot. Awkwafina was asked about Shang-Chi sequel to their new movie junket and gave a disappointing update. According to Awkwafina, she had not heard anything about Shang-Chi 2suggesting that it had not yet existed or perhaps he had not been updated on its progress.

There’s no denying that three years is a long time to wait for a sequel that hasn’t received a solid update. After all, the disappointing update from Awkwafina seems to suggest that the movie is not among the MCU’s priorities. There was no announcement about it at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con. However, Shang-Chi 2 has been confirmed and its lead star has repeatedly assured fans that it is happening, so it might happen. Also, considering its performance at the box office, Marvel is unlikely to cancel it. The first Shang-Chi the movie did better The Eternals (2021), The Marvels (2023) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). There have even been claims that since these three films have exploded, Marvel has been abandoned Eternals 2, The Marvels 3 and Ant-Man 4. It is reported that Marvel Studios wants to focus on projects that will be more interesting and the performance of the original Shang-Chi movie, will probably be given a sequel. There is no official release date for the Shang-Chi 2, but fans can keep their hopes high, of course, unless Marvel officially cancels.
