Kyiv Independent to launch travel program ‘Dare to Ukraine’

Kyiv Independent will launch a travel program called “Dare to Ukraine.” In each of the six episodes, host Masha Lavrova will visit six locations across the country to explore local culture, architecture, food, popular activities, people and daily life.

The first episode of “Dare to Ukraine” will be released on the Kyiv Independent YouTube channel on Aug. 31.

“Last year, I followed my heart and made a bold decision to return to Ukraine after spending eight years abroad, looking for a place that felt like home. Little did I know, the house I was looking for was the one I had left behind. In the first month of my return, I got an idea: what if I could create a travel program about rediscovering my country?

Fast forward to today, and it’s been exactly a year since I’ve been back. The coolest part? We made this travel program – a trip across Ukraine, during the war, and more,” says Masha Lavrova, creator of TikTok at the Kyiv Independent and host of the program.

Ukraine is the largest country in Europe with centuries of history, rich culture, and modern health, but until the Russian invasion, few people from these countries others could point it out on the map. After 2022, the international community has learned about Ukraine but many still see it through the lens of war. Introducing “Dare to Ukraine” is an attempt to change that.

“Apology to Ukraine” is an exploration of the rich history and exciting modern life in Ukraine. The program will introduce viewers to different cities of Ukraine and will include useful recommendations for potential visitors. It will also show the impact of Russia’s war on different cities and communities in Ukraine and highlight that they are still under the constant threat of being wiped out by Russian aggression.

“I believe that, in many ways, the war has made us look at our country with new eyes, to realize what is at stake and why it is worth fighting. Whether it is the decision to stay in the country either for security or to return and participate in the war, this conflict has forced us all to reassess what Ukraine means to us. And for me, it has become a mission to help the world discover the beauty, strength and solidity of my country,” sums up Lavrova.
